Do you remember a dream nearly every morning? If so, consider yourself fortunate. Most people recall dreams only once in a while. Some never remember them at all. It is a scientifically proven fact that everyone has four to six dreams every night. But why are so few remembered?
Do loud noises jar you awake?
If you wake up to an alarm clock every morning, it can jolt you awake too suddenly. The same goes if your phone starts ringing while you are still asleep. It is difficult to hang onto fleeting dream images when one is suddenly jarred awake by a loud sound.
Solution: Tell yourself that you will gently awaken about five or ten minutes before the alarm. With practice, this becomes easier. Having those minutes of calm before jumping out of bed allows time and space for dream recall.
Are you too busy?
Too often, there are so many things one has to think about after getting out of bed. Being too busy is yet another reason for not remembering dreams. One may be interested in dreams and curious about what they mean, but there may be too much to do and so little time to nam 1991 menh gi take those moments to jot down a few sentences. When you are busy, the ego can decide to make a dream disappear altogether–moments before you open your eyes.
Do you believe that dreams have no importance?
The ego or conscious mind might logically, (but mistakenly) believe that there are no practical uses for dreams–so why bother to remember them? In truth, dreams are necessary for health and well-being, and are useful for the guidance they provide. Once the ego learns their value, remembering dreams will be welcomed.
Fear of nightmares and bad dreams can block recall
You may have had the wrong impression about the meaning of some of your dreams, especially if they have seemed bad, embarrassing, or frustrating. You may be fearful about what these symbolic images may actually mean–therefore, such dreams will fragment away before you can fully open your eyes.
If you have been prone to nightmares, the ego may block the remembering of dreams as a way to protect you. It is not fun to awaken out of breath, with heart racing, still feeling full of fear because the nightmare seemed so real.
I have worked with many adults who had terrifying nightmares when they were children, which resulted in a shut-down of dream recall from childhood on.
In truth, nightmares and bad dreams are a gift. We tend to internalize stress. Fears, worries and concerns can plague us when the economy is in a recession. Nightmares alert you. They SHOW you how much fear and stress is stuck within the subconscious. Negative emotions can hurt the body and cause pain, illness and depression. These need to be released. So, be thankful for the nightmare when it appears. It is your friend.
Why try to remember dreams if you don’t know how to understand or interpret them?
Dream images may make no sense to you. Therefore, your ego can think: Why bother to clutter up the waking mind with nonsense?
Why don’t dreams make sense? The majority of them are in symbolic code. Our modern culture has forgotten how to decode and understand the language of symbolism.
Ancient and primitive cultures knew the value of their dreams. They intuitively knew how to understand them and use them for daily guidance.
